COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

FIREWORKS OPERATIONS C2T07

(0.25 CEU Instructor)

Instructor: John Thomas, Pyro Technician & Fire Investigator, Fire Inspection Services

The Fireworks Operation course was developed for the first responder in mind. The course explains how pyrotechnic shows are set up and fired. The Instructor will also cover what responsibilities the 1st responder will have if something goes wrong. The course will also talk about the interaction with the Local and State Fire Marshalls office.

RAPID INTERVENTION/ SAFETY & SURVIVAL C2T08

(0.5 CEU Instructor)

Instructor: Scott Warner, Academy Instructor

This eight-hour course will cover some of the latest techniques in Rapid Intervention of saving our brothers or sisters as well as Safety and Survival techniques’ to save yourself. These hands on courses will be the hardest work you have ever done within the scope of training in the fire service. There will be several stations covering several subjects. Some of the subjects being covered will be: Managing the Mayday; Ladder Bailout; Mask Course; Below Grade Rescue; Upper floor Rescue; and Several Victim Removal Techniques.

This course will meet some of the state guidelines for Rapid Intervention Crews.

Prerequisite for Class: Firefighter 1

The Following equipment will be needed to participate in the class:

Full PPE including SCBA unit and Spare Cylinder.

VEHICLE EXTRICATION C1T88

(0.25 CEU Instructor)

Instructors: Tom Gaylord Academy

The class will give an overview of Vehicle Rescue practices in relation to safety and multi – agency operations. It will be followed by a practical exercise in powered rescue tool operations used in vehicle rescue.

How true is it that we create our own reality? As women in a very "non-traditional" role, we are constantly breaking new ground. As pioneers in this area, how are we creating the image of the female firefighter?

Are we happy with how we are perceived and received? Join us for a presentation and round-table discussion of this vital topic as it pertains to us all.

From I-287 Southbound: Take Exit 36. Bear right off exit to traffic light. Make right onto Ridgedale Avenue. At next traffic light, make left onto East Hanover Avenue. Proceed through six additional traffic lights. At the 7th traffic light, turn right into Academy driveway (Freedom Way). Mileage - 3.5 miles.

From I-287 Northbound: Take Exit 36B. Cross back over I-287 and stay to the extreme right. At the traffic light, take yield to the right (Ridgedale Avenue). Turn left at third traffic light (East Hanover Avenue). Proceed through 6 additional traffic lights. At the 7th traffic light, turn right into the Academy driveway (Freedom Way). Mileage - 3.5 miles.

From Route 24 Westbound: Take Exit 1A. At first traffic light make right onto Hanover Avenue. Proceed through 8 additional traffic lights. At 9th traffic light, turn right into Academy driveway (Freedom Way). Mileage - 4.5 miles.

From GSP Northbound: Take Exit 142 to I-78 East to I-78 West, to I-287 (then follow directions from I-287 Northbound), or Route 24 West (Follow directions from Route 24 Westbound).

From NJ Turnpike Northbound: Take I-78 West. To Route 24 West (Then follow directions from Route 24 Westbound).

The 2004 Retreat was held at the Camden County Fire Academy in Blackwood NJ April 17, 2004 and featured a live burn evolution, fire service and rescue tool techniques for women,  and our keynote speaker, Rochelle (Rocky) Jones from FDNY .
